Intel® Getting Started Course Program Evaluation

Vera Michalchik, Ken Rafanan, Willow Sussex

From 2003 to 2008, SRI has led a nine-country evaluation of Intel® Learn&an after-school program designed for community-based informal educational settings worldwide. Aimed at learners aged 8 to 16, the curriculum is particularly targeted to communities where access to technology in homes and schools is limited. The program focuses on helping young people develop capabilities in technology literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration through hands-on learning. SRI's evaluation approach has included the development of a suite of instruments that are easily adapted for use in all the countries participating in the program. SRI has conducted case studies and technical assistance in partnership with local evaluators in India, China, Russia, Brazil, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Chile, and Mexico, and compiled data to provide comprehensive reporting on program impact. To date, the program has reached nearly 700,000 children worldwide.
