National Technology Activities Task Order
The National Technology Activities Task Order (NTA) is an effort by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to provide analytic and policy support for educational technology leadership activities focused on the implementation of Title II Part D of NCLB. The task order consists of three major activities: (1) design and support of national educational technology technical assistance activities; (2) Study of Data-Driven Decision Making to Improve Educational Outcomes [study description]; and (3) secondary analyses of national data sets related to education technology.
The task order calls for technical assistance activities to heighten awareness of the potential for well-designed data systems to improve educational outcomes and to encourage and support the widespread adoption of effective strategies for robust use of educational data systems. To this end, a series of outreach activities have been planned. Approximately 5 "partnership activities" in which the NTA project works with other organizations to leverage meeting and technical assistance resources will be carried out over a 4-year period beginning in 2006. Two partnership activities have already occurred: one with the National Govenor's Association Center for Best Practice and another with ISTE at the National Education Computing Conference. Two "summits" have been convened by ED that brought together appropriate constituent groups to address needs identified by state and local practitioners. In addition, an eToolkit has been developed to serve as a web-based resource for projects developed under the task order (see www.school2-0.org).
Analysis activities involve secondary analysis of existing datasets related to education technology issues of interest to ED. Some of the datasets to be analyzed include the National Educational Technology Trends Study (NETTS) and the National Center for Education Accountability (NCEA) survey of state data systems. Four issue briefs will be prepared during the span of the task order.
